Parental Rights

Friday and Saturday found my family and I in Jamestown, North Dakota at the North Dakota Home School Convention. The keynote speaker was Michael Farris! He was great to listen to. One of his talks was on Parental Rights. Apparently, the UN is trying to get a treaty passed called the UN Convention on the Rights of a Child (UNCRC).

''This poses a serious threat both to parental rights and to U.S. sovereignty, as the UNCRC dictates not only that the federal government must intrude into the family sphere to an unprecedented degree, but also how the federal government is to monitor and govern the actions of our families. Parental rights would be replaced by "the best interests of the child" as defined, ultimately, by an international committee of 18 people in Switzerland.'' (from the website listed below)

The actual document is here if you want to read 15 pages of a UN treaty.

Basically, this treaty would allow the children to have a ''right to be heard'' - allowing children to take their parents to court and to choose their own religion. Parents would not be able to spank their children, would not be allowed to home school them, and would have to teach them that all religions are the truth.

You can read lots more about it and you can sign the petition at http://www.parentalrights.org/

A Young Maiden's Daybook - 1

Today… is Monday, March 16, 2009.

Outside my window… it's foggy, but looks to be sunny later on!

I am thinking… that I should get something to eat - and the lyrics of a Coldplay song are stuck in my head.

I am thankful for… my friends, family - and the fact that I am getting an education!

I am wearing… jeans, a cherry print skirt, a red t-shirt that I got in 2004 from a play I was in, one of my Dad's old basketball sweatshirts, and knee-high striped socks.

I am reading… ''Heaven'' by Randy Alcorn, Isaiah and Psalms.

I am creating… coasters to sell in my onlin
e store, and signs for my Tap recital dance.

One of my favorite things… peanut butter and music.

For education this week… I take Principles of Management CLEP tomorrow, then I start studying for American Government CLEP.

A keeper at home skill I am using/learning … doing laundry. Loads and loads of it. (pun intended :) )

A spiritual lesson I’m learning… to have respect for my elders, friends, parents - pretty much everyone.

A godly character trait I plan to work on… to be more humble. Especially when I do well on my College work - not to brag about it.

Scripture I am memorizing… Psalm 121 in Spanish!

I am praying for… the Ackland family, my friends, my aunt, my family that I love.

For the rest of the week… I plan to stay on top of my studies, not chat too much with my friends, and really REALLY try to respect my Mom. And play outside with my brothers.

A picture I’d like to share ... this was from our trip in the summer of 2007 - I took this picture in the Black Hills of SD. Isn't it pretty?

A Young Maiden's Daybook Preview

I found out about this neat thing called A Young Maiden's Daybook. I will post tomorrow doing the daybook, as you are supposed to do it every Monday. Hopefully I will be able to do it every Monday, as it looks like fun, and looks to be informative to my readers (very few though they are ;) )

Here is the round-about way I found out about this! I am enrolled in College Plus! I have lots of friends through College Plus! - Aaron, one of my friends, showed me his sister's blog, and she does Daybook! So there you have it. ;)

I think it will be a lot of fun, and it will give me something to post about! So, until tomorrow then, adios mi amigos. :)

not-so-introspective ...

So my weekend was wonderful. It was so nice to not do anything school wise and just talk/hang out with my family and friends. Here are a few pictures from this weekend! Enjoy them.

My brother (on the far right) played in a three-on-three basketball tournament! His team got first place and they all played really well. That was a lot of fun to watch.

Foosball! I love this game - even though I got beat pretty bad. It was a blast to play with my family. :D

The rest of the weekend - I was like my cat - very lazy. That was really nice for a change I have to say.
